We were asked by Perkins & Will in Chicago to design textiles for two divisions of ComEd, a power company in Chicago: NGG (provides nuclear power) and T&D (transports and distributes power). The design firm and the client were interested in designs relating to the energy aspect of their business.
We presented different design concepts based on energy waves and symbols- a cityscape at night, power poles, stars representing energy, as well as an element in ComEd's logo.
The client selected the following designs:
Nuclear Fission: a panel fabric based on a microscopic image of nuclear fission selected for NGG.
Power Poles: a panel fabric inspired by the characteristic profile of power poles selected for T&D.
Small Stars: this design was developed both as an accent panel fabric and as a seating textile for the T&D division.
